English faculty members, student receive state writing plaudits

Johnson Johnson

Department of English faculty members Amaud Jamal Johnson and Jesse Lee Kercheval and student Seth Abramson will be honored at the Council for Wisconsin Writers' 2014 banquet next month.

Johnson, an associate professor in the department's creative writing program, will receive the Edna Mendt Poetry Book Award for Darktown Follies (Tupelo Press).

Kercheval, the Zona Gale Professor of English and the founding director of the MFA program in creative writing at UW-Madison, will receive the Edna Ferber Fiction Book Award for My Life as a Silent Movie (Indiana University Press).

Abramson, a doctoral candidate in English literature, earned honorable mention for the poetry book category for Thievery (University of Akron Press).
