John Ahlquist, a recent faculty hire in the Department of Political Science, recently won the Michael Wallerstein Award from the political economy section of the American Political Science Association (APSA).

The award honors the best journal article published in the previous calendar year.

The winning article, Building Strategic Capacity: The Political Underpinnings of Coordinated Wage Bargaining, was published in the American Political Science Review in 2010.

For Ahlquist, the award affirms that domestic labor market institutions and politics continue to be relevant in the highly interconnected global economy.

Ahlquist will join the UW-Madison faculty in 2011 as an Assistant Professor of Political Science.

His research interests include how societies resolve the tension between the political demands of poorer groups and the need to provide incentives for risky investment, political economy, and methodology.
