Left to right: Rhea Olivacce, Angela Kloc, Kristin Schwecke (UW-Madison aluma), Samuel Schultz, Kevin Newell, Corrie Stallings and Emily Birsan (UW-Madison alumna) are winners of the 2010 Wisconsin District MONC Auditions. Each singer was awarded $1500 and will advance to the Upper Midwest Regional in St. Paul, MN on February 5th, 2011.
Two University of Wisconsin School of Music alumnae have advanced to the the Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in Minneapolis in February 2011.
The winners are Emily Birsan (Masters in Music Performance, 2010) and Kristin Schwecke (Masters in Music Performance, 2010).
Birsan completed her degree in Opera under the direction of Professor William Farlow and studied voice with Professor Julia Faulkner.
She is joining the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s apprentice program in spring 2011. She will be the third UW-Madison School of Music alum to enroll in the prestigious program.
Schwecke completed her degree in Voice, studying with Professor Mimmi Fulmer.
Schwecke recently participated in the Crested Butte Music Festival Opera Young Artist Program in summer 2010 where she placed 5th in the finals of the 10th Montreal Czech/Slovak International Voice Competition in 2009.
Both Birsan and Schwecke were awarded $1,500 in the competition.
The winners of Regional Competitions advance to the National Competition in New York in March 2011.

A current School of Music graduated student, Celeste Fraser (studying voice with Faulkner) received an Encouragement Award at the competition.
