Thomas G. Andrews (Ph.D’03, History) has been awarded the prestigious Bancroft Prize in American History by the trustees of Columbia University.

One of the most coveted honors in the field of history, the award is for his book “Killing for Coal: America’s Deadliest Labor War” (Harvard University Press, 2008). The book is based on his doctoral thesis.

In recent years, UW Professors Susan Lee Johnson, William Cronon and Emerita Professor Linda Gordon have received the prize, along with numerous history department alumni.
