A small segment of the Galactic plane observed in the previous GLIMPSE survey.
The Department of Astronomy has been approved to extend the “Galactic Legacy Infrared Mid-Plane Survey Extraordinaire” or GLIMPSE imaging survey of the Galaxy using the Spitzer Space Telescope.
This is one of the two largest programs to be approved by NASA for Spitzer Warm Mission. Almost 2000 hours have been approved to complete coverage of the remaining two-thirds of the Galactic plane at 3.6 and 4.5 microns during the Warm Spitzer Mission.
The data will be reduced and cataloged at the Department of Astronomy as was the case for the previous GLIMPSE data. Barbara Whitney is the PI of this segment of the survey.
